12th District reps to hold town hall meeting

Reps. Mike Steele, R-Chelan, and Keith Goehner, R-Dryden, will hold a “town hall” meeting on Saturday, March 23, at Wenatchee Valley College’s Grove Recital Hall, 1300 Fifth Street from 10 a.m. to noon.

The lawmakers will provide an update on the 2019 legislative session. Community members in the 12th District, which includes much of the Grand Coulee Dam area, are invited to attend, ask questions and share their comments about state government-related issues.

Local kids to star

The Missoula Children’s Theatre’s production of “The Frog Prince” will take the stage at the Lake Roosevelt High School gym Saturday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., starring dozens of local students from kindergarten through 12th grades.

Auditions just took place Monday, but the MCT production comes complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup, and the organization’s directors conduct rehearsals throughout the week with the students after school.

The event is sponsored by the Grand Coulee Dam PTA.

Recycling option chosen for Sunrise contract

With all the four towns agreeing to put a recycling receptacle at the regional transfer station in Delano, the Regional Board of Mayors approved to have that detail put into a new contract with Sunrise Disposal to begin in 2020.

Electric City Clerk Russ Powers said the receptacle will be placed outside the facility’s gate to start, but if that becomes a problem with people throwing trash inside it, it can be moved inside the gate.

The 25-yard receptacle will come at no extra cost to residents, and will collect newspaper, magazines, phone books, aluminum cans, tin cans, and plastic bottles and jars.

The transfer station already collects corrugated cardboard.

The five-year contract would have a five-year extension clause to be considered in 2024.
