Twenty Years Ago

Last Tuesday night about 8 p.m. John Nelson heard a racket outside his trailer in Delano. When he went outside to find out what was going on he told police he saw three dogs being attacked by a cougar.

Coulee Dam citizens voted to join the North Central Regional Library District Tuesday, voting 193-66 to allow the district to annex the town.

John Fruchtl, 87, bowled a 279 at Riverview Lanes, the highest game for the year.

The level of Lake Roosevelt has locals concerned for the tourism season, with the level to lower to 1220 by April 30.

Five young ladies vying for the title of GCD Area Jr. Miss included Melissa Delafield, Rose Butterfly, Alex Smith, Katie Kennedy and Lori Darnold.

Selected as Lake Roosevelt High School’s athlete of the week is Ryan Hunt. Robbie Sheilds has been selected student of the week.

Thirty Years Ago

The Raider girls’ basketball team defeated the state’s top- ranked Ephrata Tigers in a 60-56 overtime win before a jubilant home crowd Tuesday evening.

A $22,000 grant recently awarded to the Lake Roosevelt Alternative School will be invested in a computer assisted learning program aimed at high-risk, drop-out students. Electric City Councilman Dennis Clinkenbeard first introduced, then withdrew, his controversial ordinance governing adult magazines when council met on Jan. 24. Clinkenbeard’s proposed ordinance would require businesses which display adult magazines and related material to keep them away from public access.

James E. “Sham” McDermott, 51, of Coulee Dam, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 24 in Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Marybeth Pribilsky and Stephen Scott Foster have announced their engagement and plan to wed in a June 10 ceremony at Walla Walla.

Selected as Raider of the Week was LRHS principal Wallace Loe.

Forty Years Ago

The Grand Coulee Dam Rotary Club celebrated its 30th anniversary of the foundation at a banquet held at the Wild Life Restaurant.

Coors Beer has just been named available, and Adolph Coors company of Golden, Colo., let it be known to the area with a full-page ad advertising “Coors is Here” in the Feb. 1 edition of The Star.

A molybdenum mine on the Colville Indian Reservation, 14 miles from Grand Coulee Dam, could lift the tribes out of current poverty level.

Fifty Years Ago

Margie Grandorff has been named 1969 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for Grand Coulee High School.

The Coulee Dam City Council last week pledged $250 toward the purchase of a breathalyzer machine.

Safeway ad: head lettuce, two heads lettuce 29¢; russet potatoes, 10-lb. bag 59¢; Betty Crocker cake mixes 4/$1; boneless steak, chuck cut 79¢ lb.

Sixty Years Ago

The Delrio Grange plans to dispose of the old Delrio Community Church building.

A public meeting to be held in the community building Feb. 5 will feature the pros and cons of incorporation of Coulee Dam.

Grand Coulee put the squeeze on the Brewster Bears here last Saturday night and denied every Brewster attempt for the lead. George Good led the scoring parade with 31 points.

Years Ago

The Dover Perrys welcomed a new grandson Tuesday. The baby was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Perry at the Coulee Dam Hospital on one of the coldest days of the winter.

A number of new families have moved to Electric City, among them: D.F. Lind family, Myron Wilson, Elmo Sanders and Ray Bowman.

Margaret Ries and Betty Canady were hostesses at a bridal shower Saturday afternoon in honor of Mrs. Claude Grover (Genevieve Canady).
