Electric City is taking action to prevent looking like a glorified RV park.

The Electric City council approved a zoning revision last week that limits the number of recreational vehicles or utility trailers that can be parked on someone’s property, and requiring there to first be a building on that property, or have a building permit in hand.

The revision also limits the amount of time someone can live in an RV to 60 days a year.

“Basically, this is to prevent people from buying lots just for an RV,” City Clerk Russ Powers said at the Dec. 11 meeting.

The zoning revision reads as follows:

“Any utility trailer, cargo trailer, or RV of any type may be parked in any zone on the owner’s private property in Electric City. However, they shall not be used as a residential, or sleeping quarters, except for temporary use for periods less than 30 days and no more than 60 days in (1) ‘one’ calendar year.

“A utility trailer, cargo trailer or RV may not be parked on a lot prior to a principal structure or prior to obtaining the appropriate building permit for commercial or residential properties.

“No more than two (2) RV’s may be parked on a lot at any time. Additional units must be stored outside of public view in an accessory structure suited for such use.
