Raiders Hannah Wapato and Soarin’ Marchand will be running at the state cross country tournament on Saturday.

At the Districts 5-6 tournament at Blue Heron Park in Moses Lake Oct. 24, Wapato finished third in the 5,000-meter 1B/2B girls’ race with a time of 20 minutes, 30.29 seconds.

Marchand placed 13th in the 5,000-meter 1B/2B boys’ race in 17:54.64.

The top 21 girls and top 28 boys qualified for the state competition in Pasco on Saturday.

“The race was great,” said Coach Ann Green of the districts competition. “As a team, everyone looked great, everyone ran their hardest.”

“Tyler Palmer was part of our JV team all season, and he stepped up to run our last varsity spot and ran his best time of 23:31.7,” Green said, adding that Palmer was the only Raider to set a personal record time that day.

“We have a young, hard working, dedicated group of kids who I am sure next season will be working even harder,” Green continued. “We looked at the results and noticed that the top four boys’ teams that advanced were actually from our league. It’s pretty neat to see that all season we were competing with the best teams in our district. All in all, I am honored to have been a part of their season this year. To watch all of them improve over the past few weeks was a great experience as a new coach.”

The 1B/2B State cross country meet will be held at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco on Saturday, Nov. 3, with the girls running at 10 a.m. and the boys at 11:30.

“There will be a state send-off assembly at the LR High School gym Friday at 9 a.m.,” Green said. “I would like to encourage anyone in the community to come on down and send our runners off with the best of wishes and show them our strong community support.”
