Fire fought north of Nespelem

A wildland fire broke out last Wednesday north of Nespelem, burning some 247 acres before being contained Saturday, the Northwest Interagency Management Team 2 said.

Gherke Windmill Garden gets

faraway visitors

There were 35 entries in the sign-in sheet at the Gherke Windmill Garden at North Dam Park for the month of September, many of them families or pairs of people. Entries came from as far away as Australia, and ranged from British Columbia to Iowa, Minnesota, and more.

Electric vehicle charging station possible

The Coulee Area Park and Recreation District gave its OK Monday night for the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce to pursue an electric vehicle charging station to be installed at North Dam Park. “To me, it’s a no brainer,” said Bob Valen of CAPRD to agreement from the other members.

Bus route changes to be announced

A public meeting to discuss Grant Transit Authority bus route modifications will be held at Grand Coulee City Hall from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

The as-of-yet unknown modifications are slated to take effect on Nov. 1.

The specifics of the changes will be announced at the meeting and the public is encouraged to weigh in on the changes at the meeting, or afterwards by calling GTA at 509-765-0898 or emailing gta@granttransit.com.

Reward offered

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that a victim of theft is offering a $5,000 reward.

The victim of the theft of construction equipment from a worksite near 4th St. S.E. and S. Kansas Ave. in East Wenatchee, between Sept. 5 and Sept. 10, is offering a $5,000 reward for the recovery of all stolen equipment and the arrest and successful prosecution of those responsible.

The stolen equipment includes several different models of Trimble GPS units

inside Pelican cases, a Stihl saw, Kubota RTV, and Prototek Line Finder.

“This is a very active criminal investigation,” the announcement said. “The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information to come forward by calling the DCSO business line at 509-884-0941 or RiverCom dispatch at 509-663-9911.” When calling, refer to case number 18D05227.
