Meet the candidates planned

American Legion Post 97, in Brewster, will host a Fall Candidate Forum on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m.

Okanogan County candidates vying for auditor, commissioner for District 3, sheriff and prosecutor positions have all been invited to speak and answer questions. Refreshments will be provided.

Meet & greet planned to discuss idea of consolidating towns

The topic of consolidation of local area towns will be discussed at a meet and greet to be held at The Wine Bar in Grand Coulee on Sept. 27, starting at 5:30 p.m. SCJ Alliance Consulting Services, which specializes in such topics, will be there, and all are welcome to attend. An article will be included in next week’s Star with further details.

ALE enrollment where it should be

There are 23 students enrolled in the Alternative Learning Environment program, enough to fund the program as planned. “It’s going really well,” said Superintendent Paul Turner at a recent school board meeting. The ALE is located in the annex building at the former middle school.

School enrollment is up

There are 723 students enrolled in the Grand Coulee Dam School District, more than the 712 the school budgeted for. “You always want to have more kids than you budget for,” said Superintendent Paul Turner. “You get X amount per kid, so if you budget for a higher amount than you have, you’re spending for more than you have. If you have less, then you have excess funding.”

Center school survey process still underway

Concerning the proposed sale of the vacant Center School in Grand Coulee to Center Line Development, the surveyor is perturbed with Grant County, which says parcel descriptions for the property can’t be found, Superintendent Paul Turner explained at Monday’s school board meeting. Other than that, the process is still moving forward.
