Better put another notch in your belt, the barbecue competition will be back at Harvest Festival.

The Pacific Northwest BBQ Association will be bringing their competition to Banks Lake Park on Saturday, Sept. 15 and Sunday, Sept. 16.

The event runs on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. the public can get their fingers on the tasty morsels. You can get four samples for $10.

Prizes in the competition total $6,500, in addition to trophies and ribbons for the best meat masters.

The grand champion will receive $2,000, and the reserve champion will receive $1,000.

In each of the categories of ribs, brisket, pork, and chicken, first place gets $225, second gets $185, third gets $150, fourth gets $115, and fifth gets $75.

The Harvest Festival BBQ competition often figures into the PNWBA’s “Team of the Year” award, as well as season-long awards for each of the four main meat categories.

“A hard-core group of teams vie for these awards,” said Jane Biehl, head judge for the PNWBA. “There is no money for these awards, but there are trophies, plaques and bragging rights, of course.”

Biehl added that the race is tight to win these awards and that Harvest Festival will play a key role in their season scores.
