Students and teachers are being surprised with gestures of kindness on their lockers, walls, doors, and desks in Lake Roosevelt Elementary.

Christi Berry is having students in her SHARP Kids morning group tape heart shapes with inspiring quotes on them to color up the school a bit.

"I started this project right before spring break and told the kids we need to spread kindness in our school," Berry said, saying she wanted the place covered before the end of the school year.

Berry has the kids, about eight in total, tape the hearts and quotes "where they want to spread their kindness" every morning, Monday through Friday.

"I told my students that if we can make one person feel good by receiving one of our hearts," Berry said, "then we are spreading our kindness one kid at a time."

Amanda Burton, mother to student Marissa Burton, feels the effort is a good one.

"I think what's she's doing is amazing," Burton said. "It's a good way to spread positive messages throughout the school. That can be contagious. It takes a proactive teacher to step up and take up those initiatives, and I think that speaks volumes to our teacher base."

Burton found out about the project from her daughter, saying she is happy and proud of what she's been doing.
