Food Sovereignty/Food Security is a growing concern in today’s environment. With disease outbreaks, food contaminations and recall announcements, it is becoming increasing more important for people to know where their food comes from and how to “grow their own groceries,” to support a safe, healthy food supply chain.

Colville Reservation WSU Extension will be providing Food Sovereignty/ Food Security gardening workshops on the Colville Reservation. Workshops will be delivered at the Keller Community Center (11669 Hwy 21) on May 16, from 1:00pm- 4:00pm, and at the Inchelium Head Start (100 Moccasin Rest St.) on May 17, from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. (Workshops were held in Omak and Nespelem districts, on May 8 and 10.) Participants will learn “the why, the how, and the what now of gardening.” Information will be provided on: raised bed gardening; how to build and create a straw-bale garden; and how to utilize the harvested produce, in particular, how to preserve berries.
