Lake Roosevelt students competed at the Future Business Leaders of America state competition in Bellevue over the weekend, where Alan Nordine took fourth place in the Help Desk category. Nordine will compete at the national competition in Baltimore, Maryland, at the end of June.

"[Nordine] had to wait in a holding room for about 20 minutes," said Susan Duclos, advisor to the FBLA club at Lake Roosevelt. "Once his name was called, he went back into the testing prep room where he was given his prompt. He had 10 minutes to solve the problem and was given a note card to write his thoughts. From there, he presented to judges. He was graded in nine categories from the understanding of how to solve the computer problem, communication skills, empathy, knowledge or terminology, conflict resolution, poise, voice projection extra."

Nordine was joined by fellow Raiders Lillie LaPlace and Taylor Holeman for the trip and competition. LaPlace and Holeman did not place in the competition.

"Everyone had a great time," Duclos said. "Learned a lot from other schools, met new students and explored Bellevue and Seattle."
