With an early warm spell, some local residents may already be up for a little spring yard cleaning, but the traditional community cleanup dates were set this week for April, when local schools take the first week off and older students can help with the work.

The Regional Board of Mayors set the dates for spring cleanup at their meeting Monday afternoon. The Delano Transfer Station will receive garden waste under different schedules, free of charge, starting with Coulee Dam on April 4, and for the three other towns April 17-21.

In Coulee Dam, city workers will pick up limbs that can be chipped. No other garden waste except tree limbs will be picked up by crews there. Any limbs exceeding a full pickup load will be charged out at $20 a cubic yard. Residents are asked to place their tree limbs at the curb or in the alley on the following schedule, beginning at 8 a.m.:

Tuesday, April 4: Aspen, Birch, Cedar, Fir, Holly, Pine, Spruce, Civic Way, and the west side of Central Drive from Civic Way south;

Wednesday, April 5: Tilmus, Camas, River Drive, 11th and 12th Streets, Crest Drive from Central to River Drive, and Central Drive north to Crest;

Thursday, April 6: Hillcrest Addition, Tulip, Walnut, Yucca, and the east side of Central Drive from Civic Way south, and north to Crest Drive;

Friday, April 7: West Coulee Dam, throughout that side of the river.

In Electric City, residents must have all yard waste at the curbside by 8 a.m. Monday, April 17.

The city crew will pick up, for free, only natural vegetation. All leaves, pine needles, cones, shrubbery and grass clippings must be in bags weighing not more than 50 pounds, and limbs must be cut in lengths not over six feet long.

In Elmer City, beginning on April 17, upon request of senior citizens over 65, or of handicapped residents, the crew will pick up garden waste of natural vegetation. Those residents needing assistance must call city hall.

In Grand Coulee during the week of April 17-24, the crew there will pick up natural garden waste, bagged, and with limbs cut to under six feet long, placed at curbside or in the alley, a maximum of one pickup full. Residents needing pickup service must call before noon on Wednesday, April 12.

No return pickups will be made in any of the municipalities.

At the same meeting Monday, the mayors set the fall cleanup dates for Oct. 27 to Nov. 3.
