Fireworks over Grand Coulee Dam will be on Wednesday, July 4, this year, Peggy Nevsimal of the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce said Tuesday.

The chamber board and Nevsimal returned from a retreat at Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, over the weekend and made several decisions that affect activities here during the year.

Last year, because July 4 fell on a Tuesday, the chamber set the annual fireworks show for Saturday, July 1.

“It didn’t go over well, and we all decided to hold it on the traditional day,” Nevsimal stated.

Fifteen people attended the retreat, a number that included seven of the nine board members and some spouses, Nevsimal stated. Board members, all volunteers, pay their own way on retreats.

The Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union will again support the fireworks show, “and the contract has already been signed with Rocketman Pyro,” Nevsimal stated.

The chamber announced that a two-year contract has been signed with Rainier Amusements, to bring its carnival to the Colorama Festival on Mother’s Day weekend in May.

“Their carnival was well received last year and we are pleased that Rainier is coming for the next two years,” Nevsimal stated.

The chamber will hold its annual dinner to honor its “Achiever of the Year” and “Business of the Year” on Monday night, Feb. 26, at the Melody Restaurant in Coulee Dam. Members of the public can attend and should call the chamber office at 633-3074 to make reservations.

The chamber also announced its annual all-you-can-eat Crab Feed for March 10, and it will be held again this year at the former Sage Restaurant on Midway Avenue. Cost is $45 per person and tickets are available at the chamber office, The Star newspaper and Coulee Hardware.
