City council assigns reps

The Electric City council named two of its members to outside boards at its meeting last Tuesday. Richard McGuire was named to continue representing the city to the Grant County Transit Authority; Birdie Hensley was named to represent the city on the Wastewater Treatment Plant, jointly owned by Electric City and Grand Coulee.

Treatment plant revamp behind schedule

Construction of Coulee Dam’s new wastewater treatment plant is behind schedule by about a month and a half, city engineer Daniel Cowger told the council last Wednesday.

“There are some legitimate reasons that led to the delays,” he said, noting cold weather had delayed concrete batch plant operations.

Cowger said he would learn more details this week, but startup of the main treatment plant will likely be in April, with phase two of the project not complete until October or November.

Coulee Dam may rethink key board

Mayor Larry Price signaled a possible rethinking of Coulee Dam’s Parks and Natural Resources Board.

Council members expressed frustration on the part of residents who had felt thwarted in recent years as they tried to get permission to have city-owned trees removed.

“I think the tree board and Parks and … Natural Resource Board have been too wrapped up together,” Price said.
