Police were called to North Dam Park after a pedestrian saw a vehicle submerged in Banks Lake. They have not identified a suspect. Vehicle owner Lewis Adrian, 26, was awakened by his uncle Phillip Wakwak about an hour after police were called. Adrian arrived at the scene and watched his truck being towed from the lake.

The Star newspaper is using new technologies to make information more accessible, launching the StarLine interactive website located at http://www.grandcoulee.com, which will be the home not only for the newspaper, but will also serve as a cyberspace clearinghouse of information on the Grand Coulee Dam Area.

People have seen big cats prowling around the Grand Coulee area in the Heights area above Crescent Bay Lake, near Coulee Graphics, and across the road in front of the Star newspaper office.

Lady Raiders extend their winning streak in what Coach Curtis described as a “sloppy game.” The Raiders beat the Quincy Jackrabbits 43-29 in their first game of the New Year.

A Jeep Renegade belonging to Glenn Chase of Electric City was pulled from the icy waters of Banks Lake during a heavy snowfall. The vehicle went through the ice out from the boat ramp at Electric City Playland, with the driver leaving as it broke through the ice. Units of the local rescue squad attached a line to the Jeep, which was then dragged to the shore where the ice was broken open to retrieve it. Divers in wet suits braved the frigid waters to hook up the cable in some 30 feet of water.

More than three hundred people were present at the Coulee Dam Community church to pay final tribute to Frank A. Banks, the builder whose crowning achievement was engineer in charge of building Grand Coulee Dam, the mightiest concrete structure in the world.

Coulee Dam’ s Beavers swarmed over arch-rivel Grand Coulee, 58-37, in a non-league game at Coulee Dam Friday night. George Dunham tallied 20 points to spark the Beavers to a 35-19 halftime bulge, while Palanuk was high for the Tigers with 10.

Mrs. Glenn Barker won the cup of the week for her talk with Slides on Disneyland at the Thursday evening meeting of the Toastmistress club at the Green Hut coffee shop.

Rags, tatters, and patches were featured at the Rotary club hobo party Saturday eventing at the Community building in Elmer City with the theme carried out, even to serving mulligan stew. Liquid refreshments were less typical and consisted of coffee brewed in modern coffee makers rather than tin cans over a camp fire.
