Work can be a real grind

A Road Products Inc. worker uses a grinder to cut through the pavement of the runway at Grand Coulee Dam Airport last week along the lines of wide separations of pavement to cover major cracks in the 4,200-foot runway. The Spokane company submitted the low bid of $248,000 for the work. The runway will be closed while equipment and workers are active on the runway. Painting of runway lines will follow completion of the project in about 30 days. The work is being paid for by grants from the Federal Aviation Administration, the state Department of Transportation (airport division) and Grant County Port District 7. - Roger S. Lucas Photo
