This year’s senior class is planning a trip to Seattle and places beyond for its “senior trip.”

But the 25 seniors and four adult chaperones will have to be “early birds” if they expect to catch the bus before it pulls out at 5 a.m. for the two-day annual event scheduled for June 2-3.

The Grand Coulee Dam School District board approved the trip at its Monday meeting. Seniors will leave early the first day and come back late — very late on the second day.

Class sponsor Julie Friedlander presented the plan to the board Monday.

The class has been raising money for the trip for the past four years. Friedlander told the board that total cost of the trip was about $10,454.

Seniors will take the Seattle Underground tour at 11 a.m., followed by a visit to the popular Pike Place Market and then a visit to the Museum of Pop Culture (formerly the Experience Music Project), the cultural institution founded by former Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen in 2000 at Seattle Center.

Seniors and chaperones will be staying at the Westin Hotel.

In the evening the seniors will visit the Crab Pot for dinner and then ride the waterfront ferris wheel before retiring for the evening.

At 9:30 a.m. the next day the group will visit the Woodland Park Zoo and afterward have lunch at the Phinney Avenue Zeek’s Pizza.

After lunch the senior group will head out for Arlington, north of Everett, for fun at Monkey Time Paintball.

Late afternoon will find the seniors headed toward home with a stop at Bob’s Classic, a restaurant in Wenatchee, and then they will be homeward bound.

Seniors each year plan a trip to celebrate the fact that they are graduating from Lake Roosevelt High School.
