Addison Hansen heads to the net to receive Sean Garvin's set in Thursday's win against Tonasket.

The Lady Raiders won a close, 3-2 game at home against Tonasket last Thursday before losing 3-0 in Brewster Saturday, and losing 3-2 at home against Soap Lake last night.

Thursday saw the Lady Raiders take an early 2-0 lead against the visiting Lady Tigers, who tried to rally, winning the next two sets to tie the game at 2-2. But the Lady Raiders prevailed and narrowly won the tie-breaking fifth set 15-12.

"My setter, Sean Garvin, sped up the setting tempo for her hitters and grabbed and split blockers, allowing Aiyana Picard and Mikaylah Thompson open net attacks," said Head Coach Kasey Garvin. "Sean Garvin's 15 digs and Aiyana Picard's 12 digs led the team's defense; Chasity Williams helped round the defense out with her personal record of eight digs for the game."

But LR began to slip before regaining their composure for the win.

"The two sets we lost, we had a lot of hitting errors; the tempo slowed and it took us a while to get back into the original groove that we started off the game with," Garvin said. Sophomore Olivia Ludwig's serving "kick started" LR's offense in the fifth set, the coach said. "We began the set trailing with a score of 1-5, and she served us back into the game," the coach said. "Rylee Pitner followed her up serving six straight, and with the help of her teammates, propelled our lead to 10-8."

The winds of fate did not blow in favor the Lady Raiders in Brewster, however, with LR losing the game in only three sets.

"We started off the first set running a very quick offense that Brewster wasn't prepared for," said Coach Garvin. "We led until we got to 10 points, and then Brewster freshman Karste Wright served her team up for the entire day, giving us problems in all three sets. We struggled to get a pass into the air all evening."

The Lady Raiders volleyball team played their last game of the season last night in Coulee Dam against Soap Lake. Wearing custom pink uniforms for breast cancer awareness, the Lady Raiders gave it their all, but tied at two sets a piece, lost the fifth set to the Eagles for a final score of 3-2 Soap Lake. The emotional loss for the Lady Raiders means they will not move onto the playoffs. More details will be in next week's Star.
