"The Lady Raiders trudged through a wet, muddy, and cold game on Saturday with a 6-1 loss to Tonasket," said Casey Moore, head coach for the young Lake Roosevelt soccer team.

The game in Grand Coulee was the team's second to last home game on the schedule, for which the team set several goals, Moore said. Those were "to keep them from scoring 11 again, to (make) a goal, and to pass and communicate better. They were successful in all of their goals."

Maddie Toulou scored that single goal for the Lady Raiders, pushing through defenders before scoring with less than 10 minutes left in the game.

Coach Moore let neither the loss nor the weather dampen her spirits. She sung some praises for her players and her team as a whole.

"Freshman goalie Wensdae Antoine earned her stripes on Saturday," Moore said. "She had fast hands and came out on the ball several times. She blocked well over a dozen shots on goal.

"Bryn Chaffee played her best game so far at mid-field. She was able to control the ball, pass, and re-direct, even initiating some pretty close attacks on goal.

"Hannah Wapato played tenacious defense and had some really good passes. Overall, our team communicated better than ever, and their passes were sharp and intentional. I'm very proud of them for playing with class and determination."

The 2-6 Lady Raiders soccer team has two games left in the season, both coming up soon. On Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. they will host the 7-1 Brewster Lady Bears on Ludolph Field at the former middle school in Grand Coulee. On Monday, they will travel to Manson to face the 0-8 Trojans.
