A 1:60 working hydraulic model of Grand Coulee Dam provided engineers valuable information about the behavior and effect of water on the spillway bucket and on the riverbed downstream from it.

  This view, taken immediately downstream from the model's left powerhouse, shows the spillway section with the equivalent of 250,000 second-feet of water passing over the drum gates.
