Raider golfers ended their season at the district tournament last week at the Alta Lake Golf Course outside of Pateros.

“I was very pleased with how our young team handled themselves at this year’s district tournament,” Head Coach Steve Files said. “This was the first go-round for all but one of our players. … This tournament is always a step up in pressure and competition, and Alta Lake is a dangerous course.”

Raider Golf had also traveled to Alta Lake on May 13 against Okanogan. As of publishing, there was no information from Head Coach Steve Files on the May 13 match.

Darin Whiteman finished May 17 at the district tournament with 105 strokes for 15th place to lead the Raider boys. Alan Nordine finished 24th with a score of 125. Kody Olsen was the only other Raider boy golfer to finish the course, placing 31st with a 142.

Jazmine Reed was the only girl representing LR at the district match. She placed 12th with a score of 162.

Files looked on the district performance not with disappointment but with eyes on the future. “It was a great learning experience for our kids,” he said.

LR golf was very young this season and could have many returners next year. Whiteman is poised to have a good season next year. With all the returners, the program could contend with the other North Central B schools for greater representation at state next year.
