With a large team and a little extra help from the community, the Raider Golf program kicked off the season at Moses Pointe Golf Course in Moses Lake March 14 against the Warden Cougars and Moses Lake Christian Lions.

Raider Head Coach Steve Files said he had yet to receive the final results from the MLCA coach, so results are still coming.

But because of the large turnout for Lake Roosevelt’s golf team, they did not have enough equipment for everyone to have a set of clubs until community members pitched in.

Following a notice in The Star that used clubs were needed, the team is now fully outfitted.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my own sincere gratitude, and on behalf of the young men and women of the Lake Roosevelt High School Golf Team, to thank all those who reached out to help us at the outset of this season,” Files said. “The overwhelming response from the community to our request for donations of golf equipment has helped us tremendously. Their generosity has helped make it possible for several kids, brand new to the sport, to have a good initial experience and hopefully become part of growing the game of golf,” Files added.

This week the Raiders will be practicing and preparing for their next contest, Tuesday, March 29 in Oroville against the Hornets and the Okanogan Bulldogs.
