Wrestling ready for Districts

Raider Wrestling finished up the regular season at home Saturday with the Central Washington South mixer, as seven Lake Roosevelt wrestlers won matches, with 11 pins and two decisions by points against five other teams.

LR competed against White Swan, Riverside Christian, Kittitas, Warden, and Mabton to decide seeding for the district tourney. In the 43 matches contested, the Raiders wrestled 15.

Kaleb Horn at 106 pounds, Jacob Smith at 113, Tony Nichols and Trevor Circle at 132 won all the matches they wrestled. Renford Sanchez in his one match at 220, pinned Bradford from Riverside Christian in just 12 seconds.

Brandon Long at 182, defeated Matias from Mabton by pin to pick up a win in the three matches he wrestled.

When the matches were done, the coaches got together and decided seeding for the district tournament this Saturday at Warden High School, starting at 10 a.m.


At 106 pounds, Horn will be the number-two seed. At 113, Jacob Smith is the number-one and Taylor Circle will be number five. At 132, Tony Nichols is the number-two seed and Trevor Circle is at number four. Brandon Long is the number-five seed at 182. Renford Sanchez will be the number-one seed at 220.

From the district tournament, six wrestlers will go to the regionals at Kittitas. North schools from the Central Washington League will join the Raiders at regionals. The District 7-9 schools will have their own regional this year, as the WIAA expanded the State B wrestling from 8- to 12-man brackets.
