A Douglas County female sheriff’s deputy had more than a trying day when she stopped a driver in Bridgeport Sunday for an equipment violation.

When she approached the car, she noticed the driver acting suspiciously and suspected that he was under the influence of alcohol, according to Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal.

The driver, Manuel Pachecio-Pascacio, 41, of Bridgeport, started backing away from the deputy while she was trying to get a field sobriety test. When she tried to handcuff the suspect, he turned and punched her in the stomach, the sheriff reported.

The deputy used her taser gun, but as soon as the electrical charge ended, the suspect got up and ran again. She activated the taser a second time and when Pachecio-Pascacio fell down she put her weight on him. The suspect continued to escape and she tasered him a third time. The man finally complied, and after being examined by fire department personnel, was taken to Okanogan County Jail.

The man is being charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving without an ignition interlock, obstructing a law enforcement official, giving false information and with assault in the third degree.

Pachecio-Pascacio also had an active arrest warrant out for him on a previous DUI. He was given a warning on his faulty equipment.

The deputy suffered bruising.
