Ladies snap losing streak

After losing three in a row, the Lady Raiders snapped that skid at Liberty Bell last Thursday, prevailing by one point over the Mountain Lions.

“One and one for the week,” pointed out Lady Raiders’ Head Coach Wallace Pleasants, “with a very tough home loss to Okanogan and a good road win against Liberty Bell.”

The team lost the chance to improve that record when games scheduled for Saturday at Pateros were canceled due to a winter storm.

When Lake Roosevelt hosted Okanogan Jan. 12, the Bulldogs were in the driver’s seat from the opening tipoff. LR did not score until the second quarter. At halftime, the Bulldogs led 33-4.

In the second half, the Bulldogs subbed in many of the bench players but the Lady Raiders still had no answer for the Bulldogs. The final score was Okanogan 65. LR 16.

The Lady Raiders were looking to end the three-game skid when they traveled to Liberty Bell to take on the Mountain Lions. They found out the Mountain Lions are an improved team; it was a tight game all the way. In the end, the Lady Raiders pulled out the 41-40 win.

When asked which player has made good improvement, Pleasants highlighted a freshman.

“Loryn Moore, she’s showing lots of energy when she is on the floor and the game is starting to slow down for her now,” he said. “Loryn is starting to figure out just what she can and can’t do on the floor.”

This week, the Lady Raiders were scheduled to host the Oroville Hornets last night in Gailord Nelson Gym. The Hornets were also coming off a big loss to the Bulldogs in which they did not score until the final four minutes of the third quarter.

Tomorrow, the Lady Raiders host the Mountain Lions, which could be another exciting nail-biter, starting at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, LR will travel to Bridgeport to play a Fillies squad that is still looking for their first league win of the season. Tipoff at Bridgeport is 6 p.m.
