Nissen named for national

honor

Nespelem’s Brian Nissen has been named as a 2015 Native American “40 under 40” award recipient.

Nissen was among the winners of the prestigious award from the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development during the 40th Annual Indian Progress in Business Awards (INPRO) Gala last week at the Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The award is given to individuals under the age of 40, nominated by members of their communities, who have demonstrated leadership, initiative, and dedication and made significant contributions in business and their community, the organization’s press release said.

Nissen has worked for the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Indian Reservation for the past 14 years, currently serving as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Colville Tribal Solutions Corporation. He has also served as co-chair of the Indian Law and Justice Committee of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, and as a project manager in the tribal energy and information technology departments. He is a graduate of Whitworth University in Spokane.

City government plans out-of- town retreat

The Electric City Council and city staff plan a retreat Jan. 23, beginning at 9 a.m., at the Grant County Public Health building in Moses Lake to do planning for

future events.

Still such a deal

The lease rate for hangars at the airport is going up fractionally for 2016. The rate is moving from 11 cents a square foot to 12 cents a square foot. It will only affect three hangar owners, since the remainder of hangar owners are already paying the 12-cent rate. The decision was made by the Port District commissioners recently.

Theater to hold auditions

The Soap Lake Masquers Theatre will hold auditions for the play “Them Three” Dec. 6,and 7 at 7 p.m. Adam Zaleski, Justin Rowland and Jeff Ames will each direct one of three one-act plays. The plays will be performed Feb. 12 through Feb 28. Zaleski will direct “Super Hero Support Group” by D. M. Larson, which requires seven actors. Rowland will direct “Cheating Death,” a play by Kamron Klitgaard, it also requires seven actors, four males and three females. Ames will be directing “A Window Ajar” an original play he is writing.

“Service fair” set to help veterans

Congressman Dan Newhouse (R-Fourth District) will host a Veterans Service Fair on Friday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Yakima. Admission is free and open to all veterans and their families in Central Washington.

Veterans’ organizations and non-profits will be on hand to offer information on the services available to support veterans, including information on state and federal benefits programs as well as health, wellness, and career resources. Families are welcome.
