Interceptions, long touchdown runs and a good air attack earned Lake Roosevelt its first football win in weeks Friday night at home against Kittitas.

With the 28-12 win, the Raiders ended a three-game losing streak and put themselves in a mood for this Friday's rematch with Soap Lake. LR had moved some players around due to injury, and played a successful game that keeps them in the running for a crossover game spot.

"Our kids rebounded after a difficult loss last week," Raider Head Coach Geary Oliver said. "Kittitas bottled up our running backs for most of the game, but we had a good game in the air."

In his first start as quarterback, Steven Flowers threw a touchdown pass to Chance Garvin and another to Josiah Desautel.

And the flash didn't all come from offense. Austin Garcia intercepted a pass at the Raiders' three-yard line and raced it 97 yards for a touchdown. "Our defense played their best game of the year, with five sacks and three interceptions," Oliver noted.

Oliver highlighted players who had stepped into different roles to cover for injury. "Malcolm Carson had a great game filling in at corner for an injured Lucas Bird," he said. "We never missed a beat, and he had a critical interception."

"Chance Garvin led our defensive backfield, making calls, and had another interception again this week," Oliver added.

On special teams, Desautel returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, for another big play for the Raiders.

With the win, the Raiders' win-loss records stands at 3-4, overall, and 1-3 in Central Washington 2B South play.

This week, the Raiders have a rematch with the Soap Lake Eagles, who defeated them 34-7 in a non-league game at Greene Field Sept. 18.

"In the last game, we hurt ourselves with fumbles on offense and bit too hard on reverses on defense," Oliver said. "We are a much-improved team at this point in the season, and we are looking forward to the rematch."

Soap Lake had been in a three-way tie for first in the South until they lost to Warden and Mabton. Now the 5-2 Eagles will be hoping to seal the number-three spot in the South and move on to face the loser of the Okanogan/Brewster game.

LR, with a win over Soap Lake, could be in a fourth-place spot in a crossover game with the winner of the Okanogan/Brewster game.

The Raiders meet the Eagles in Soap Lake this Friday, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
