Erratics Chapter

to Meet Oct. 13

Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Wenatchee Valley Museum, 127 South Mission, Wenatchee.

Jerome Lesemann, Dept of Earth Science, Vancouver Island University, will discuss the hydrology of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet that developed over British Columbia and parts of Washington State during the last ice age. Dr. Lesemann will focus on the Okanogan Valley, especially its northern extent in British Columbia.

Evidence suggests that along this valley, large volumes of glacial meltwater were stored in lakes formed beneath and in front of the ice sheet at various times during its existence. Sudden drainage of these lakes carved large bedrock canyons and created extensive sedimentary deposits along the Okanogan Valley. The program is free and open to the public.
