Any interested buyer has only a few more days to get a proposal in for the purchase of the Center Elementary School building and property.

Deadline for submitting a bid proposal is Aug. 5.

The Grand Coulee Dam School District board Monday night scheduled a special meeting for Aug. 12, when they will open bids and presumably award the winning proposal.

District Superintendent Dennis Carlson told board members that there have been three requests for bid packets, including one request from a local person.

The school building and site, which includes eight acres overall, was appraised recently for $190,000. At the time Carlson stated that the property wouldn’t go for that low of a bid, emphasizing the number of good view lots that are part of the deal.

The law requires that the district get at least 90 percent of the appraised value of the site before it can be sold.

The building was vacated last September in favor of the new school complex in Coulee Dam.

The district essentially purchased the site from the Continental Land Company in October 2014, for $155,000. Continental Land Company had provided the site for a school with the stipulation that when it no longer was used for a school it would revert back to CLC.

Carlson also told the board that surplus items designated for sale in the old school were almost gone now. That included desks, tables, chairs, and a variety of old school materials judged too old to be moved to the new school.
