Sunbanks Lake Resort will begin construction of 11 villas in September and they will be ready for occupancy by the summer tourist season, chamber of commerce members learned Thursday.

The body of a man who drowned in the Devil’s Canyon area in early May was discovered floating in Lake Roosevelt last week by passing boaters.

For the first time, the Nespelem School District will be asking voters to approve a levy this fall. The two-year levy will be on the September ballot, giving the district its first chance to capture “state levy-equalization” dollars.

Officials announced last week that the new casino in Coulee Dam will officially open this Saturday, long before the second story of the building is complete.

The first place team in the girls’ minor league softball included Rosie Atchison, Lori Adolph, Cindy Boggs, Glennis Ware, Maria Daniels, Dets Daniels, Darlene Stanczak, KeAna Wapato, Billie Jo Cleveland, Jackie Palmer, D’Ann Stoddard and Trina Sanders.

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will start action this week for the establishment of a food, beverage, grocery and fishing equipment concession at Steamboat Rock State Park.

For the first time in the damsite’s history, baseball fans will be able to watch a baseball game under the lights next Wednesday at the Walsh Stadium in Mason City. The Grand Coulee Pioneers will play the Canadian Clowns starting at 8:30 p.m.

A question that commercial groups take steps to set up an organization thoroughly and favorably publicize the need for completion of the Columbia Basin Project is made by the Washington State Chamber of Mines. The chamber calls attention to the fact that in the East the Grand Coulee Dam is being classed with the Florida Canal and Passamaquoddy Project and that an organization to spread the truth about the dam is needed.
