My opinion of our educational system

I think the young ladies have valid points on the dress code concerns (“Students express desire to change dress code, school system,” 7-25-18), and I think they should carry on their concerns and recruit more of the student body to address such issues that go on in “Raider Country.”

An added concern: issues of the continual “bullying” at our schools. NUMEROUS Raiders come to me and my counterparts asking what could be done and where to go. I do refer them to what is written in the school handbooks and the proper way to address the issue.

One example: A young lady endured two full years (maybe more) of harassment, bullying, even sexual harassment at the school. I was advised that the complaints went ignored. I inquired through the LRHS staff and was not able to get anywhere. Toward the end of the year, the young lady was told to ignore them and walk away. She did. Later, the young lady was threatened with Truancy Court, ridiculed more for being a snitch, even threatened with bodily harm as a result of her complaints that she had filed. Documentation was requested, and of course, was unable to be located.

How does a student go to our schools and feel safe and wanting to continue an education with the protection she was given? Since then, the aggressors have been told to stop and that was pretty much it, while the “victims” were the ones reprimanded.

There are COUNTLESS complaints of the same nature, in just our school district alone. Countless parents that bring up the same stories of their children going through the same incidents, still same results. I know I’m kicking a dead horse, and this has been there for years and years; it needs to stop! Hope this gets brought up more, and [that] more people are being made aware of what our LR staff is doing, and not doing.
