Local Lions active in community

Grand Coulee Dam Area Lions participated this weekend in the annual Koulee Kids Fest and Coulee Cruizers Auto Show. The Lions have sponsored a station for the Kids Fest for several years.

The Grand Coulee Dam Area Lions was chartered in 1936 and has had an active club in the area since. Sometimes the Lions are not on the front lines or as visible as some, but each year they are active in the community.

This kind of fundraiser by the Lions puts money into the club’s project fund, which is used for several projects throughout the year. Some of the projects include collecting used eyeglasses that are sent to the Northwest Eyeglass Center in Olympia, where they are sorted and repackaged and sent all over the world. We adopt a family each year for the Trees of Sharing; we donate food and money to the local Care and Share food bank each year; ever since we started as a club, we have sponsored an annual Easter egg hunt; we support a local sight program; we sponsor one month of each year a birthday day at the CMC long-term care home.

These are just a few of the activities that the club takes part in. Our motto is “We Serve,” and we are always looking for community people that want to serve with us.

We meet at the Melody in Coulee Dam at 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Come join us!
