Richard "Dick" Carpenter, 75, passed away Saturday evening, June 9, 2018, in Grand Coulee, Washington. Dick was born Monday, May 17, 1943, in Bremerton, Washington, to Earl and Lela Carpenter, graduating from West High School in 1961. On Saturday, October 23, 1965, Dick's life forever changed when he married Miss Lucille "Lucy" Haydock in his hometown of Bremerton. Dick worked for the Department of Defense at Naval Submarine Base Bangor on Washington State's Kitsap Peninsula prior to moving his family to Central Washington, where he was employed at Grand Coulee Dam from October 1985 to March 1997, retiring as an electrician. Dick was a car enthusiast, member of "The Handlers Car Club" of Bremerton, and always dreamed of building a classic hot rod. When not enjoying the vibrations of vintage horsepower, Dick was a 4-H leader in Kitsap County and a member of the Grand Coulee Eagles Lodge. Dick collected beer steins – being especially proud of his "Budweiser Clydesdales" collection – and enjoyed working in his garden and with his hands, particularly when he was helping others. He and Lucy loved traveling together around the country in their camper and spending time with their family... "Dad was all about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren!"

Predeceased by both of his parents, Dick's legacy lives on through his loving bride of 52 years, Lucy Carpenter; son, Richard Carpenter Jr .; daughter, Kerri Carpenter; grandchildren: Rindi Green (Jeff), Liz Carpenter and Sarah Carpenter; great-grandchildren: Maci, Henry and Lexi; brother, Jim Carpenter (Linda) and nephews.

Dick's family requests that donations be made in his memory to either Shriners Hospital for Children: (509) 744-1242 http://www.donate.lovetotherescue.org or St. Jude's Children's Hospital (800) 805-5856 http://www.stjude.org.

A Celebration of Dick's life will take place at 1 p.m., on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Strate Funeral Home, 329 E. Grand Coulee Ave., Grand Coulee, Washington 99133.
