Koulee Kids Fest this weekend

A wide variety of free kid-friendly activities will be offered throughout the community for Koulee Kids Fest this Saturday, June 16, including a live show from entertainer Leapin’ Louie Lichtenstein.

Children will get a “passport” showing the station where each activity is located, and get their passport stamped at each station. When a child gets six or more stamps on their passport, they will be entered into a raffle to win fun prizes at the end of the day’s activities.

Passports can be picked up at the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce, Coulee Hardware, Loepp Furniture, the Grand Coulee Dam Visitor Center, and The Star newspaper during normal operating hours. On Saturday, passports will be available at each event station.

Stations include mini golf at Sunbanks Lake Resort, pedal boats at Coulee Playland, painting piggy banks at North Cascades Bank, planting a flower at Coulee Hardware, free Italian sodas at Café Espresso, cookie decorating at Voltage Coffee House, face painting at Loepp Furniture, making a top at the senior center, free ice cream at Coulee Creamery, building a dam at the Grand Coulee Dam Visitor Center, a chalk art contest at Coulee Medical Center, a fire truck tour at North Dam Park, voting for a Coulee Cruizers car at Banks Lake Park, and a Lions Club barbecue at North Dam Park.

The festival is free and runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Leapin’ Louie’s show, featuring lasso and whip tricks, juggling, high unicycle, and other stunts, begins at 3 p.m. at North Dam Park — if the weather is good — or at the former middle school’s gym if the weather isn’t good.
