The Raider tennis squad had a busy opening week to their 2018 season, competing at home against Pateros, Entiat, and Wilbur/Creston.

In Coulee Dam on March 15, the Raiders competed against Entiat with the boys winning 4-0, and the girls going 2-1 in their matchups.

"There were a lot of good things about how we played," Raider Head Coach Steve Archer said. "The overall skill is a notch above last year. Malcolm Carson is playing at a very high level and should give every opponent he faces this year a real challenge. Bradley Wilder & Morgan George really clicked as a doubles team.

"Alexia Ryan, even though she didn't end up winning, played the entire two-hour match at a very high level. Hannah Wapato and Tarissa Clark at doubles both hustle and have an intensity to their play."

On March 16, Pateros joined in on a match with Wilbur/Creston, originally scheduled to be in Wilbur, because both of those teams' courts still have snow. "This match became a kind of 'round robin' format for our boys' team," Archer said.

Against Wilbur/Creston, the boys won their matchups 4-0, and the girls 3-1. The boys won 3-1 against Pateros, which doesn't have a girls' team for Lady Raiders to compete against.

"I was very impressed with Bradley Wilder's consistency and placement," Archer said about Wilder's 8-6 win against a Pateros player. "Most of the points were long, with several rally balls going back and forth. In the end, Bradley proved his grit and pulled away with a decisive win."

Malcolm Carson "showed his determination and finished off a close match with strong finish," Archer added about Carson's 9-7 win over Ceniceros from Pateros.

The tennis team played in Oroville yesterday, and plays Liberty Bell at home March 22 at 4 p.m., followed by a March 27 home match against Omak at 4:30 p.m.
