Grand Coulee police arrested two people and recovered a stolen vehicle at the same time when they went to a Grand Coulee apartment on Feb. 17.

Arrested were Cassandra L. Graves, 27, a Grand Coulee resident, and Larry E. Fry, 19, from Nespelem. Both had Department of Corrections warrants out for them.

Police officer Levi Johnson had been looking for Graves and was advised that she was at an apartment over Pepper Jack’s Bar and Grille. Johnson went to that location, along with Officer Joe Higgs.

A blue Chevrolet pickup truck parked alongside the building attracted their attention. When they ran the plate on the 1996 pickup, it came back as stolen out of Spokane County. Looking inside, the officers noted that the ignition had been “punched” and that there was a lot of female clothing scattered about inside. The registered owner in Cheney was contacted and acknowledged that it had been stolen.

The two spoke to the apartment renter, who stated Graves was inside and that she was the one driving the pickup.

Police put Graves into handcuffs, and Higgs saw someone go into the bathroom.

That’s where the officers found Fry hiding behind the door, the report stated.

On searching Fry, the officers found three used syringes in his front pocket, they reported.

Asked how she came into possession of the pickup, Graves told police a person had given it to her.

Fry told police that he had come to town because for a wake and Graves to see relatives, but that both got “high” instead.

The two were taken to Grant County jail on the warrants and both received the additional charge of being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

While Fry was being searched at the jail, a clear, plastic bag was found hidden in his boot. The baggie contained several small bags that had a crystal-like substance in them police believed to be methamphetamine.

The syringes and zip-lock baggies were sent to the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab. The police stated in their report that Grinnell was not charged.
