Electric City is considering changing its Comprehensive Plan to allow “vacation rentals.”
Terry and Debra Ann Jensen, who own a residence at 9 Lakeview Avenue, requested the change.
The city council indicated the city would move forward on the request to amend the Comprehensive Plan, plus a rezone, to accomplish the change.
City Clerk Russell Powers stated that the city might be able to accomplish the change by as early as February next year.
The city would have to hold two public hearings on the change before it could be adopted.
Powers stated that a “vacation rental” would be anything from a rental of one day to 30 days, according to the definition.
The city will be determining how “vacation rentals” might be allotted throughout the various zones within the city.
“Currently we have the lone request,” Powers stated.
The city’s planning commission is made up of Planner Kurt Danison, Powers, and Deputy Clerk Diana Parrish.
