The Lady Raiders are mustering up moxie, starting out their league season with two wins.

Following a successful 7-1 non-league season, the Lady Raiders have moved into the more official league season, when each game weighs more heavily on the books.

Playing the Bridgeport Fillies at home Oct. 3, LR closed the game out in three sets for the win.

"The game progressed like I hoped," Head Coach Kasey Garvin said. "We started out a bit slow, but started to put things together for the remaining sets."

At the net, Sean Garvin garnered eight kills and a block; Addison Hansen had five kills and two blocks; and Mikaylah Thompson tallied nine kills.

Shining at the service line were Rylee Pitner, giving another 100-percent performance; Garvin with 92 percent; and Megan Abel, who served 90 percent with five aces.

On the defensive end, Garvin had nine digs, with Olivia Ludwig, Chasity Williams, and Hansen contributing a combined 13 digs.

In Manson on Thursday, LR dominated, again closing out the game in three sets.

"We had a great night at Manson," Coach Garvin said. "The girls were very upbeat and played with confidence."

Megan Abel served at 100 percent, with five aces for the evening. Hansen, Pitner, and Emily Abel all served 100 percent as well. Hansen, her sister Ellie Hansen, and Garvin delivered six kills each at the net. Garvin also contributed 11 digs on the defensive end.

"I'm pushing these girls to step outside their safe volleyball boxes that they like to stay in while on the court," Coach Garvin said. "To beat the tough teams, we're going to have to play some dynamic volleyball; each girl is capable, we just need to see how much moxie they all can muster up in the games leading up to postseason."

The Lady Raiders played yesterday at home in Coulee Dam against the Waterville Lady Shockers, results of which will be reported in next week's Star.

Their next game is Thursday in Manson, with junior varsity scheduled for 5 p.m.

LR's next home game is Saturday, hosting the Liberty Bell Lady Mountain Lions in the gym in Coulee Dam, with JV scheduled for 1 p.m.
