The Lady Raider soccer team kicked off their season with two wins and a loss this past week, already showing a dramatic improvement over last season.

In Manson on Sept. 12, the Lady Raiders defeated the Mustangs 3-1. Junior Kylee Marchand had two assists, the first to sophomore Maddie Toulou, the second to freshman Bryn Chaffee.

"Bryn made the second half exciting because she had so many solid shots," said Head Coach Casey Moore.

Team Captain, junior Loryn Moore, made a long assist to Toulou who had two goals for the game.

Wensdae Antoine had 13 saves for the day as goalie.

"Overall, I could not be happier with their progress," Moore said. "Defensively our team has improved. There is obvious growth in the way the team is playing together, and it's only going to get more exhilarating."

Hosting Tonasket in Grand Coulee on Sept. 14, the Lady Raiders defeated the Lady Tigers 3-2.

"The game was very intense and aggressive on both sides," Moore said.

Toulou scored two of the goals, assisted by Loryn Moore and Chafee; and Chafee scored the third goal, assisted by Kylee Marchand.

Antoine blocked 12 goals in the game, and Coach Moore said Jozlyn Hansen had a standout performance at center back.

Two days later, on Sept. 16, the Lady Raiders had their first loss of the season, losing 2-1 to the Liberty Bell Lady Mountain Lions.

"It's difficult to say who scored the one LR goal," Moore said. "However, Loryn Moore kicked a powerful kick off a foul that ricocheted into the goal."

Antoine blocked another 12 goals in the game.

"They played really well against a top-notch team," Moore said. "The team looks forward to playing Liberty Bell for several reasons: they are very competitive and also because they are nice."

The Lady Raiders played at home Sept. 19 against Manson, results of which will be in next week's Star.

Their next game will be Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Davenport at 6 p.m., followed by a home game on Saturday, Sept. 30, hosting the Bridgeport Fillies in Grand Coulee at 11 a.m.
