What do we believe anymore?

OK, by now we should all realize that we cannot believe everything on the internet, on social media, and on some network and cable news shows. Everything, it seems, is molded, skewed and edited to lean one direction or the other. What some may call propaganda, others are calling a conspiracy theory, and even others are demanding it is either fact or fiction. So, what do we conclude as true? Do we stick our head in the sand and ignore it all? I don’t have a definite answer, but I do know there is one truth out there; but I feel I need to explain some things first.

First off, our government has been covering things up for years. JFK’s assassination details, Area 51, Watergate and the signing of Native American Treaties are just a few, but the evidence is there that something is just not right with how these things were handled in the past. We also know that before everyone had a cell phone, people could get away with saying one thing and denying it later when standing in front of a different audience. Times have changed and now we all have evidence-collecting devices at our fingertips, and fact-checking methods galore. We trusted what we found out. We trusted what was on the news. But technology threw us a curveball, and so did the establishment.

First, we must ask ourselves, why would two different newscasts, two different journalists cover the same story and walk away with two conflicting stories? The only answer is there must be an agenda by one or both. There is also an editing process over which the reporter has no control. But let’s set the news aside for a bit and bite into something else.

Today we are all news reporters. With our phones and social sites, we read and share. We pass on things we think are pertinent. We take photos and share. But usually we only share things we agree with strongly, or we comment strongly against and then share, influencing our networks.

Crisis hits. A foreign country threatens us with nuclear war or a hate riot erupts in a big city. Whom do we believe? There are 20-plus different versions of the events with obvious bias on all sides. How seriously do we take this? We are talking about some major things the facts on which are totally getting skewed, and unless we are sitting right there we do not know whom to trust; and none of us are sitting right there. Unfortunately, many of us do have our heads in the sand and ignore it all. Confusion erupts, fear develops and sincerity is lightened in the forms of comedy and free speech. So, what do we believe?

Truth. It is an extremely difficult time to find it, but there is a truth to which we can cling. A plumb line truth. The Bible is not a lie. It is more than a historical document and it describes the exact era and events we currently are living in. Read it; it is all there. We need to start asking the question, “Are we ready for what is coming?” Because it is coming.

The time is now to take up the cross. To start acting like our King died for us on a cross so we can walk with the power of knowing the truth. That truth is the same today as it was so long ago when it happened. It is time we start expecting miracles and being the miracles. Our God loved us so much that he came down and died for us to be elevated closer. To have a Holy Spirit placed inside us to love, heal, resurrect. To walk in a light, to walk in the truth. It is a truth we cannot afford to keep to ourselves anymore. There are lost people out there searching for something; they are searching for a truth that can only be found one place. No drug, no app and no program can fulfill the needs that this aching heart can provide.

I am saying get ready, church, because the lost are coming for answers and we had better have a rock-solid foundation ready for them and us to stand on. I am also saying that if you are confused and searching for something and the world is just not giving you the facts you are looking for, then walk to the doors to that church, go to that person walking in faith, ask the questions your heart is begging for. The only truth out there right now is the one that sits at the foot of the cross. It is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. That is something you can believe.
