The Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area’s Sky Rangers plan three events this week.

Wednesday, at Spring Canyon, from 3-5 p.m., you can learn about the upcoming Aug. 21 solar eclipse.

On Friday, Aug. 11, at Crescent Bay, rangers will be on hand with a variety of telescopes pointed to the sky. They will have new and larger telescopes so you can see Saturn, the moon and other deep-sky objects.

Janice Elvidge, who leads the ranger group, reminds everyone that Friday’s program will be happening during the Perseid meteor shower time.

On Saturday, Aug. 12, at Spring Canyon, there will be opportunities to view the daytime and night sky. From 1-3 p.m., the solar telescopes will be out; from 3-5, rangers will repeat the solar eclipse program; and from 8:30 to 11:30, the telescopes will scan the nighttime sky.

Those who wish to attend the solar eclipse classes should call or email so rangers will have enough materials on hand.

You can let rangers know of your interest in attending the eclipse classes in person at the Spring Canyon information center, by phone at (509) 754-7843 or (509) 754-7848, or by emaiing your name and phone number to laro_education@nps.gov.

Please reply each day by 8 a.m. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
