Dennis Dean (DJ) Sumner passed away unexpectedly at Harborview Medical Center on Monday, July 3, 2017.

DJ was born on August 16, 1985, to Dennis and Rachel Sumner in Spokane, Washington. He grew up in the Grand Coulee area and graduated from Lake Roosevelt High School in 2004. After graduation, he moved to Oregon to join a friend, which started a life-long love affair with Oregon. He worked briefly in Alaska and returned to Oregon, but his home base was always his father's ranch in Tunk Valley, Washington. DJ was a certified welder and recently took an interest in blacksmithing, at which he was a natural. The family is lucky to have many of his welding and blacksmith projects to remember him by. He worked hard and played hard and loved his family more than anything.

DJ is survived by his father, Dennis Sumner, of Riverside, Washington; his mother, Rachel Sumner, of Grand Coulee, Washington; stepmoms: Patty Reid Carlson, of Riverside, and Sandy Atchison, of Walla Walla, Washington; brother, Terry Crinklaw, of Grand Coulee; brother, Ken (Angela) Sumner, of Grants Pass, Oregon; sister, Christine (Chuck) Barham, of Airway Heights, Washington; sister, Dominique (Ryan) Sprague, of Airway Heights; sister, Michelle Westbrook, of Centralia, Washington; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; and his best friend, a blue heeler mix named Porter.

A private celebration of life will be held for DJ this summer. The family will be keeping his Facebook account open, if anyone would like to express their condolences or share a story about DJ.
