Five members of the Lake Roosevelt tennis squad competed in the district tournament in Omak last week, where their season ended.

All five LR competitors lost, facing stiff competition from A schools at the tournament held at Omak High School and the North Cascades Athletic Club on May 18 and May 20.

“Unfortunately they all followed the same path and lost two in a row and were thus eliminated from the tournament,” remarked Head Coach Steve Archer.

Savannah Hobrecht, in girls’ singles, lost 6-0, 6-0 against Cashmere’s Aleah Kert, and lost 6-3, 6-3 against Entiat’s Celeste McTaggart, whom Hobrecht had defeated just last week.

Malcolm Carson and Will Friedlander, competing in the boys’ doubles, lost 6-3, 6-1 against Larson and Hendricks from Chelan.

“Malcolm and Will played their best tennis of the year,” Archer said. “They won the first two games in the first set, but couldn’t keep the momentum to the end.”

The pair then lost to Blodgett and Schultz 6-3, 6-2.

In the girls’ doubles, Rylee Pitner and Alexia Ryan lost 6-0, 6-0 to Okanogan’s Walker and Patrick, who went on to become district champions.

Pitner and Ryan then lost 6-0, 6-1 against Matteson and Frey from Liberty Bell.

“We were, of course, hoping to go farther in the tournament, but competition gets stiffer as you continue in the tournament,” Archer said.
