Gwen Hart

Gwen was born in Sunnyside, Washington, on September 29, 1961, the daughter of Alvin and Bonita Hart. The Lord came and took her home on Friday, May 5, 2017. Gwen had a great love for life and her fellow travelers. She had many friends and was a champion for the unfortunate and mistreated. She loved her family dearly and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.

In 1967, her family moved to the Grand Coulee Dam area. She entered kindergarten there and spent the rest of her school years there. She later took more classes in accounting and computers. Her life-long love for baseball began when she started playing in Little League for the Tee Pee Drive-in team. She was a star athlete and moved on to play on the women's teams before she was in high school.

After moving to Tri-Cities she played on semi-pro teams. She was a lifelong fan of the Seattle Mariners and attended as many games as possible. Her favorite all time-player was Edgar Martinez. It meant too much traveling and she quit to stay home for her family and concentrate on her career.

Gwen began a career in banking in Bellingham, Washington. She was considered a valuable employee and received two years of college through her bank. She moved back to Tri-Cities and rose to the position of Bank Manager for Key Bank in Richland, Washington. She was in line to receive a position as Vice President when her career was cut short after sustaining a disabling head injury in a motorcycle accident. She and her mother shared a home for many years after her accident and they moved to Prosser, Washington. She enjoyed living in the quiet, peaceful town close to her half-brother, Richard, and his family.

Gwen suffered from many health problems but kept her pain hidden behind a smile.

She saw the light, she had great faith through her near-death experiences. The light was always there and God was with her. She will not suffer anymore. She was the light in the lives of those who loved her and will miss her forever.

Gwen was predeceased by her father, Alvin W. Hart; her half-sister, Donna Richards; and half-brother, Terry Boatright. She is survived by her mother, Bonita Hart, of Prosser; her daughter, Melissa May and granddaughter, Karlee May, of Benton City; her son, Robert Schmidt; and granddaughters, Lidia and Rylee Schmidt, of Richland; her half-brother, Richard Hart (Carolyn), of Prosser; her half-sisters, Jeanne Crider and LaVonne Smith; her nephew, Scott Hart (Kelli) and her niece, Aimee Pearson (Randy), all of Prosser. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Prosser Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
