Parish on parks

The Electric City Council selected former city councilman Brad Parrish to serve on the city’s Parks and Recreation Committee. Parrish had been active as a council member in getting the city’s Revitalization plan started and is a promoter of the city’s two new proposed parks.

Elmer City hiring building inspector firm

Elmer City Mayor Gail Morin was authorized by the council to sign an agreement with Northwest Code Professionals to provide building inspector services for a year. The NCP group, out of Eugene, Oregon, bought out the firm, The Building Department, Inc., the firm previously providing the service.

CCT reviewing fireworks plans

Council members at Elmer City were asked by the Colville Confederated Tribes to provide their thoughts on fireworks. The CCT is reviewing any plans involving fireworks for the coming season. The council members filled out a questionnaire and these were returned to the CCT last Friday.

Book sale coming

Collective Goods (formerly Books are Fun) will be at Coulee Medical Center lobby, Tuesday, April 25. The event hosted by the CMC Guild will have items for sale from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Closed until temporary bridge is built

Highway 21 remains closed at the West Fork of the Sanpoil River about 15 miles south of Republic. The state Department of Transportation said Tuesday that construction of a temporary bridge is underway. It could possibly opening in a few days. The highway was closed after the flooding Sanpoil undercut it.

Fishing tourney this weekend

With a little luck, and if the fish are biting, you could have a shot of winning that boat and motor at the 5th Annual Triple Fish Challenge April 22 and 23. The event is sponsored by the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce.

The boat, an Achilles four-person inflatable, coupled with a Yamaha outboard motor, could belong to someone good or lucky enough to catch the required smallmouth bass, walleye and Rainbow trout each of the two days of competition.

To register, enter online at grandcouleedam.org until midnight April 20, or in person from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 21. Registration will continue during boat inspection from 6-8 a.m. Saturday.

County taxes due

The Grant County Treasurer Darryl Pheasant issued a statement last week reminding taxpayers that taxes are due on May 1. The regular due date for the first half of the year’s taxes is April 30, but it falls on a weekend.

Spelling it out

The Electric City Council last week approved job descriptions for the deputy clerk and the Delano Regional Transfer Station operator. City Clerk Russell Powers told the council that the city plans to develop job descriptions for all its paid positions.
