Honoring schools

Keith Young, left, and Titus Horton, of Young's Welding; and Lonna Bussert, of the Grand Coulee Area Alumni Association, check the placement Sunday of a column of basalt the group had set at Lake Roosevelt Schools. The five-sided pillar will eventually provide a mounting place for a plaque to memorialize the history of the Grand Coulee School District, which no longer exists. Member Diane Canady said the column could also hold plaques for a similar purpose for the other area schools affected when the Grand Coulee and Coulee Dam districts merged in the early 1970s.
