Lady Raiders volleyball wins one, loses one

The Lake Roosevelt Lady Raiders volleyball team beat the Bridgeport Fillies 3-1 at home Sept. 6 in their first match of the season, but lost two nights later at Manson.
In Coulee Dam, LR and Bridgeport played closely-matched games, but Lake Roosevelt emerged the victor within four games.
One highlight came in the second game as Aiyanna Picard served six aces in a row. The Raiders won that game 25-13. "She just annihilated it," Coach Kasey Garvin said.
"It was a good win because we're coming off of last season losing to them two in a row," Garvin said. "I knew they were going to be tough. I didn't know what my young team was going to give me tonight, but they passed well, hit well. ... They did some really good things, and I'm very proud of them."
The first and third games were real nail-biters, with several lead changes occurring throughout.
"We were behind at the end of that first one, and we came back and pulled it out," Garvin said. "So that was a big feat for them to overcome. All you can tell them is to 'dig deep' and it's all up to them out there. You've got to learn how to finish games, and I was very proud they did."
Mikaylah Thompson delivered six aces, 13 kills, and a block. Sean Garvin had 28 assists in addition to her two aces, four kills, and a block.
The Lady Raiders lost their match against Manson Thursday, 3-1. "We started off really slow in the first two matches and really didn't find any momentum the remainder of the evening," Garvin said.
