Gary Haven, Electric City’s code officer has resigned.

Haven advised the city a week ago that he planned to quit the position he has held for the past eight years.

He said Tuesday that it was “time for a change.”

Haven who is also the code enforcement officer for the town of Coulee Dam, indicated Tuesday that he plans to continue in that position.

Code enforcement officers address lapses in meeting city codes, including nuisance codes such as public safety violations including unmowed, dried yards and other fire hazards.

“In the summer, I get real busy,” Haven noted. “I hope I did some good while I was there.”

Haven had worked from 17-20 hours a month for about $360 at Electric City, trying to get residents to bring their properties up to code. He periodically appeared before the city council to give officials a report on what he had been doing.

Haven was known as having a way of coaxing people to clean their properties.
