An area of approximately 7-1/2 acres, upon which several thousand workers were housed during the construction days of Grand Coulee Dam, was converted into a number of individual Victory Gardens. The ground and the water necessary for irrigation were made available to employees of the Bureau of Reclamation at a nominal cost.  Water for the project was drawn through the dam from the reservoir. – August 1, 1943 photo
