Early holiday deadline

The Star newspaper office will be closed Monday, May 30, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. The news and advertising deadline for the June 1 issue will be 5 p.m., Friday, May 27.

Grand Coulee

Grand Coulee responded to more ambulance calls in Coulee Dam in April than it did in Grand Coulee, volunteer fire Chief Rick Paris told the city council last Tuesday night. The EMT crews went to Coulee Dam 14 times and 12 to the Grand Coulee area. A total of 32 calls were responded to in April. Paris said his fire department had two calls in April, one in Grand Coulee and the other in Lincoln County. The department’s ambulance transported six patients.

New tasers

ordered

Grand Coulee’s city council approved a request by the police department to trade in 11 of its existing taser guns for new models. The 11 were listed in “good” condition.

Deferring to

veterans

A Grand Coulee Dam Senior Center breakfast, previously scheduled for May 28, has been canceled. Interested eaters are asked to support the breakfast being held at the Veteran’s Center in Electric City instead.

Dropping balls

Golf balls will drop by the hundreds next August and three of them will be worth real money.

A fundraiser for the Banks Lake Golf Course, chances to win a percentage of the total sales for the event are being sold at $5 a ball, explained Birdie Hensley, who is organizing the event.
