Mark Herndon was selected by the school board Monday night to become vice principal at Lake Roosevelt Junior and Senior High School.

Herndon is currently principal of Clallam Bay, a K-12 school in the Cape Flattery School District at Sekiu, Washington, and will take over his new duties here next fall.

He replaces Paul Turner who will become superintendent of the Grand Coulee Dam School District July 1.

Herndon has been in his present position for three years. Before that he was assistant principal at Neah Bay, where he also taught shop and science courses. He currently teaches one shop class.

The new assistant principal got his bachelor’s degree at Westmont College in social studies and education, and has two master’s degrees, one from the University of Great Falls in secondary teaching and the other from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix in education administration.

He and his wife, Melanie, have three children: Jeddie, 18; Reagon, 15; and Reniff, in the sixth grade.

Herndon met with an interview committee here March 29, and met with several students.

“You have a wonderful facility there and I look forward to my new duties,” he said Tuesday.

“My grandfather worked on the dam, and I have relatives in the Brewster area,” Herndon noted.
